Vanilla-Almond Spiced French Toast

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon double-strength imitation vanilla extract (such as Goodman’s Route 66)
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract (such as Watkins® pure almond extract)
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ⅛ teaspoon ground allspice
  • 8 thick slices slightly stale Texas toast

Instructions

  1. Mix together whole milk and brown sugar in a large bowl until combined.
  2. Beat together eggs
  3. vanilla extract
  4. almond extract
  5. cinnamon
  6. nutmeg
  7. and allspice in a separate bowl until eggs are well beaten; add to milk mixture and stir to dissolve brown sugar.
  8. Heat a nonstick skillet or griddle over medium-low heat.
  9. Set 1 slice Texas toast into milk mixture; let soak until moistened
  10. about 10 seconds per side.
  11. Cook dipped toast in the preheated skillet until the bottom is golden brown
  12. 3 to 5 minutes; flip toast and continue cooking until the other side is browned
  13. 3 to 5 minutes more. Repeat dipping and cooking remaining bread slices.
