Sweet and Sour Meatballs II

Description

I got this recipe from my mother-in-law shortly after I was married. Now it is a favorite of our kids. I like to serve it over rice.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 cup dry bread crumbs
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup cider vinegar
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce

Instructions

  1. Make meatballs: Mix beef
  2. bread crumbs
  3. onion
  4. egg
  5. salt
  6. and pepper together in a large bowl until well combined; shape into 1 1/2-inch diameter balls.
  7. Cook meatballs in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat until evenly browned and cooked through.
  8. Make sauce: Mix brown sugar
  9. water
  10. ketchup
  11. vinegar
  12. soy sauce
  13. and cornstarch together in a medium bowl until smooth.
  14. Pour sauce over meatballs. Reduce heat to low and simmer until sauce is thick
  15. 3 to 5 minutes.

Total Time: 20 mins
