Stuffed Peppers

Description

Green peppers stuffed with ground beef and rice and topped with a seasoned tomato sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • ½ cup uncooked long grain white rice
  • 1 cup water
  • 6 green bell peppers
  • 2 (8 ounce) cans tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Bring water and rice to a boil in a covered saucepan. Reduce heat to low and simmer until rice is tender
  3. about 20 minutes.
  4. Meanwhile
  5. heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until evenly browned and crumbly
  6. 7 to 9 minutes.
  7. Hollow out bell peppers by removing and discarding the tops
  8. seeds
  9. and membranes. Slice the bottoms of the peppers if necessary to make sure they stand up straight.
  10. Arrange peppers in a baking dish with the hollowed sides facing upward.
  11. Prepare filling by mixing cooked beef
  12. cooked rice
  13. 1/2 of the tomato sauce
  14. Worcestershire sauce
  15. garlic powder
  16. onion powder
  17. salt
  18. and pepper. Spoon an equal amount of filling into each hollowed pepper.
  19. Mix remaining tomato sauce and Italian seasoning in a bowl
  20. and pour over the stuffed peppers.
  21. Bake in the preheated oven
  22. basting with sauce every 15 minutes
  23. until peppers are tender
  24. about 1 hour.
