Spicy Southern-Fried Okra

Description

This is a great way to use summer vegetables, including green tomatoes. If you want to be truly authentic, use an iron skillet!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound okra, sliced into 1/2-inch pieces
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 large green tomato, diced
  • 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and minced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil

Cook Time: 15 mins

Total Time: 45 mins
