Slow-Cooked Baked Beans

Description

I could not find a baked beans recipe that everyone liked. So I started putting a few different ones together and I came up with this.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups dried navy beans
  • water, to cover
  • 1 ½ cups ketchup
  • ½ pound fully cooked ham
  • 1 ½ cups water
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup molasses
  • 1 ½ tablespoons onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon dry mustard
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Place beans in a large pot and cover with plenty of water. Cover pot with a lid and soak beans for 8 hours or overnight. Drain and fill pot with fresh water.
  2. Cook beans over medium heat until tender
  3. about 1 hour. Drain beans
  4. reserving the water for later use.
  5. Place beans
  6. ketchup
  7. ham
  8. 1 1/2 cup water
  9. brown sugar
  10. molasses
  11. onion powder
  12. mustard
  13. salt
  14. Worcestershire sauce
  15. black pepper
  16. and 1 cup reserved bean water in a slow cooker. Add more bean water as needed if beans get too dry.
  17. Cook on Low for 7 to 9 hours.

Cook Time: 8 hrs

Total Time: 16 hrs 10 mins
