Poppy Seed Bread II

Description

A very good poppy seed bread. The glaze makes it special.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 ½ cups milk
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 ¼ cups white sugar
  • 1 ½ tablespoons poppy seeds
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons lemon extract
  • 2 teaspoons butter flavored extract
  • ¼ cup orange juice
  • ¾ cup confectioners’ sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease two 8×4 inch loaf pans.
  2. Mix the flour

  4. baking powder
  5. eggs
  6. milk
  7. vegetable oil
  8. white sugar
  9. poppy seeds
  10. 1 1/2 teaspoons of the vanilla
  11. lemon and butter flavoring. Stir until just combined and pour the batter into the prepared pans.
  12. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 1 hour. Cool for 5 minutes then poke holes in the top of the bread with a meat fork and pour glaze over tops.
  13. To Make Glaze: Mix the orange juice
  14. confectioner’s sugar
  15. and the remaining 1/2 teaspoon each of the vanilla
  16. butter and lemon flavorings. Use immediately to pour over the still warm loaves.
