Pasta Sauce with Italian Sausage

Ingredients

  • 1 pound Italian sausage links
  • ½ pound lean ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, chopped
  • 1 (16 ounce) can canned tomatoes
  • 1 (15 ounce) can canned tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 bay leaf

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat; add sausage and cook until browned
  2. about 10 minutes. Remove sausage and set aside.
  3. Heat olive oil in the same skillet over medium heat. Stir in ground beef
  4. garlic
  5. and onion. Cook and stir until beef is browned and crumbly
  6. 5 to 7 minutes. Drain and discard grease.
  7. Pour in tomatoes and tomato sauce; stir in cooked sausage. Season with salt
  8. basil
  9. oregano
  10. bay leaf
  11. and pepper. Simmer uncovered for 1 hour
  12. stirring occasionally.
  13. Remove bay leaf before serving.
