Description

This was my grandfather’s favorite, and has become a family tradition. Enjoy.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon almond extract
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • ⅓ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
  2. Cream shortening
  3. butter
  4. and confectioners’ sugar in a medium bowl until smooth. Stir in vanilla and almond extracts. Combine flour and salt in a separate bowl; stir into creamed mixture.
  5. Roll dough into walnut-sized balls and place 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven until bottoms begin to brown
  7. 20 to 25 minutes.
