Ingredients
- 1 cup pearl onions
- 4 cups water
- 6 tablespoons butter
- 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 3 cups milk
- 1 pinch salt to taste
- 1 pinch ground black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Pour water into a medium pot and bring to a boil; add onions and cook until tender. Drain in a colander
- reserving cooking liquid; set onions aside.
- Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat; whisk in flour to make a paste. Stir milk into reserved cooking water; add milk mixture slowly to the saucepan
- stirring constantly
- and cook until thickened. Season with salt and pepper; stir in onions and transfer to a serving dish.
