Mom’s Country Gravy

Description

This is my mother’s recipe I grew up with. It is very tasty and is great with biscuits and sausage.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 4 cups milk

Instructions

  1. Melt bacon fat in a large skillet over medium heat. Stir in flour
  2. salt
  3. and pepper. Cook
  4. whisking continuously until the roux becomes paste-like and light golden brown
  5. about 10 minutes.
  6. Gradually whisk 4 cups of milk into the flour mixture
  7. and bring to a simmer over medium heat.
  8. Cook and stir until gravy is heated through and smooth
  9. 3 to 5 minutes
  10. adding more milk if gravy is too thick.

Cook Time: 15 mins

Total Time: 20 mins
