Mainland Poke

Description

It’s called ‘mainland poke’ because it’s made with things that are easy to find on the mainland. Traditional poke sometimes has ingredients that are difficult to find in some places. I grew up in Hawaii and I miss the food, so I made this!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound sashimi-grade salmon, cut into small cubes
  • 1 cup shoyu (Japanese soy sauce)
  • ½ cup chopped green onion
  • ¼ cup finely chopped sweet onion (such as Vidalia®)
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons finely crushed macadamia nuts
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon red pepper flakes
  • ½ tablespoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Place salmon
  2. shoyu
  3. green onion
  4. onion
  5. sesame oil
  6. macadamia nuts
  7. sesame seeds
  8. red pepper flakes
  9. ginger
  10. and pepper in a large bowl. Mix thoroughly.
  11. Marinate in the refrigerator for 1 hour before serving.
