I’m always looking for new ways to cook venison. This non-Manwich® sloppy joe recipe will be sure to turn heads on the traditional comfort food.
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
- 1 yellow onion, diced
- 1 red bell pepper, diced
- 1 jalapeno pepper, diced
- 1 pound ground venison
- 1 pinch ground black pepper, or to taste
- 1 pinch ground cayenne pepper, or to taste
- 1 pinch grill seasoning (such as Montreal Steak Seasoning®), or to taste
- 1 pinch garlic salt, or to taste
- 1 dash Worcestershire sauce
- 1 vine-ripened tomato, diced
- 2 tablespoons barbeque sauce, or more to taste
- 2 tablespoons ketchup (such as Heinz®), or more to taste
- 2 teaspoons tomato paste, or more to taste
- 2 teaspoons hot sauce, or more to taste
- 4 hamburger buns, split
- 1 (8 ounce) package shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
