Description
Butterfish in coconut milk gravy. A Kerala Syrian Christian specialty. Serve this black cod with white rice or appams, rice and coconut pancakes.
Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon garlic paste
- ½ teaspoon lemon juice
- ½ teaspoon ground turmeric
- salt to taste
- 3 (6 ounce) fillets butterfish
- 1 ripe coconut
- 1 ⅛ cups water
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 2 pods cardamom, coarsely ground
- 1 (1 inch) piece cinnamon stick
- 2 bay leaves
- 2 large onions, chopped
- 1 (1 inch) piece fresh ginger, peeled and julienned
- 4 green chile peppers, halved
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- ¼ teaspoon ground white pepper
- 2 tomatoes, quartered
