Kentucky Biscuits

Description

This is a great recipe, different than the usual biscuit. Serve piping hot with butter, jam, or honey.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 dash salt
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • ½ cup butter
  • ¾ cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  2. In a bowl
  3. mix the flour
  4. baking powder
  5. baking soda
  6. salt
  7. and sugar. Cut in 1/2 cup butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Mix in the buttermilk. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface
  8. and knead 2 minutes. Transfer to an ungreased baking sheet
  9. roll into a 6×6 inch square
  10. and cut into 12 even sections. Do not separate.
  11. Bake 15 minutes in the preheated oven
  12. until a knife inserted in the center of the square comes out clean. Separate into biscuits
  13. and serve hot.
