Healthy and Delicious Southern Turnip Greens

Description

Traditional seasonings for southern greens are bacon grease or ham. This healthier version is a delicious alternative. Serve as-is or with sauteed bell peppers, onions, and garlic.

Ingredients

  • 1 (14 ounce) can chicken broth
  • 1 ½ cups water
  • 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 pound turnip greens, chopped
  • ½ teaspoon white sugar

Instructions

  1. Bring chicken broth
  2. water
  3. oil
  4. salt
  5. and pepper to a boil in a stockpot.
  6. Add turnip greens and sugar and return to a boil; reduce heat to medium-low and simmer
  7. stirring every 15 minutes
  8. until greens are tender
  9. at least 30 minutes or up to 2 hours.
