Hamburger Hash Browns

Description

With my in-home day care, I am always looking for some good home-cooked meals to feed the kids. This was a hit and the kids wanted me to make it again the next day!

Ingredients

  • 4 cups frozen shredded hash brown potatoes, thawed
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • ⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 (.75 ounce) packet dry brown gravy mix
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese, divided

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9-inch square baking dish.
  2. Mix hash brown potatoes
  3. vegetable oil
  4. and black pepper in a bowl; press into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  5. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir beef
  6. garlic powder
  7. and onion powder in the hot skillet until beef is browned and crumbly
  8. 5 to 7 minutes; drain and discard grease.
  9. Mix water and gravy mix into the cooked beef; bring to a boil. Reduce heat
  10. cover skillet
  11. and simmer until water evaporates
  12. about 5 minutes. Fold in 1/2 cup Cheddar cheese. Spoon beef mixture onto the potato crust.
  13. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Sprinkle remaining 1/2 cup Cheddar cheese and bake until cheese is lightly browned
  14. about 5 more minutes.
