Comforting Sloppy Joes

Description

Growing up in a small Michigan town with a large Polish population, these sloppy joes seemed to be at every wedding, graduation, and funeral. Slightly sweet with a little tang, just like potato chips, you can’t eat just one!

Ingredients

  • 1 drizzle olive oil
  • 1 small sweet onion, diced
  • 3 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1 ¼ cups ketchup
  • ¼ cup prepared yellow mustard
  • ¼ cup white vinegar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 10 hamburger buns, split

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large pan
  2. skillet
  3. or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Saute onion in the hot oil until softened
  4. about 5 minutes. Add beef; cook and stir until browned and crumbly
  5. 5 to 7 minutes. Drain off any excess fat.
  6. Stir ketchup
  7. mustard
  8. vinegar
  9. brown sugar
  10. Worcestershire sauce
  11. garlic powder
  12. onion powder
  13. salt
  14. and pepper into the pan; mix until thoroughly combined. Let simmer over low heat
  15. 15 to 20 minutes. Adjust salt and pepper to your liking.
  16. Serve on hamburger buns.
