Classic Spanish Sangria

Description

This is an authentic version of the popular wine drink. You can add any fruit that you want, but I find that apples and pears absorb all the rum. This one is not diluted with carbonated beverages. I have much success with red Burgundy wine and white rum, though spiced rum is nice too.

Ingredients

  • 1 lemon
  • 1 lime
  • 1 orange
  • 1 ½ cups rum
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • 1 (750 milliliter) bottle dry red wine
  • 1 cup orange juice

Instructions

  1. Have orange
  2. lemon
  3. lime
  4. rum
  5. wine
  6. and orange juice well chilled.
  7. Slice orange
  8. lemon
  9. and lime into thin rounds; place in a large glass pitcher. Pour in rum and 1/2 cup sugar. Chill in the refrigerator until flavors blend
  10. about 2 hours.
  11. Crush fruit lightly with a wooden spoon; stir in wine and orange juice. Adjust sweetness as desired.
