Baked Buttermilk Pumpkin Doughnuts

Description

These maple-glazed beauties took first place in the Allrecipes ‘Holy Doughnuts!’ contest at the 2015 Iowa State Fair. They’re baked, not fried, and totally delicious.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup packed dark brown sugar
  • ½ stick butter, melted
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • ⅓ cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup butter
  • ½ cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cream or milk
  • 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup coarsely chopped pecans (Optional)
