Babcha’s Meat-Filled Varenyky (Perogies)

Description

This wonderful Ukrainian dish given to me by my husband’s grandmother can be made with any kind of filling from meat, cheese, and fruit. It can be eaten warm or cold. The varenyky freeze very well. Just be sure to allow the varenyky to dry before freezing.

Ingredients

  • 12 potatoes
  • 2 pounds lean ground beef
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 large onion, minced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pinch salt and ground black pepper
  • 8 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 teaspoons salt
  • 1 cup water (Optional)
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon water, or as needed (Optional)
