Yellow Cake Made from Scratch

Description

Very simple cake, anyone can make it. You may substitute butter or margarine for half of the shortening if you desire.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups white sugar
  • ½ cup shortening
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 eggs

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. Combine flour
  3. baking powder
  4. and salt together in a medium bowl.
  5. Beat sugar and shortening together in a large bowl with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Add eggs
  6. one at a time
  7. beating thoroughly after each addition. Add flour mixture alternately with milk
  8. beating just to combine. Stir in vanilla and pour cake batter into the prepared pan.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean
  10. about 40 to 45 minutes. Cool cake completely and top with your favorite frosting.
