Mom’s Shepherd’s Pie

Description

This recipe is simple and affordable. It’s made up of common ingredients from the pantry- ground beef, green beans, tomato sauce, potatoes and seasonings. I’m not sure where it came from, but I know there are many variations. This is Mom’s! Try serving with cranberry sauce or other fruit of your choice.

Ingredients

  • 9 potatoes – peeled and cubed
  • 1 ½ pounds ground beef
  • 1 (6 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 dash Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 (15 ounce) cans green beans, drained
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Place potatoes and water to cover in a large pot. Bring to a boil over high heat; lower heat and simmer until tender
  3. about 15 minutes.
  4. Meanwhile
  5. brown ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat; drain excess fat.
  6. Add tomato sauce
  7. parsley
  8. Worcestershire sauce
  9. salt
  10. ground black pepper
  11. and green beans to the skillet.
  12. In a small bowl
  13. mix water and flour together; stir into the skillet.
  14. Drain and mash potatoes. Spread potatoes over beef mixture. Poke 2 to 3 vent holes through top to release steam as casserole bakes.
  15. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. Brush milk over potatoes and bake 5 minutes longer.
