Sawmill Gravy without Sausage

Description

Great Southern white gravy. Pepper and sage are prominent flavors in this gravy.

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon rubbed sage
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder

Instructions

  1. Melt butter in a 4-quart pot or cast iron skillet over medium heat. Stir in flour until a paste forms. Cook
  2. stirring constantly
  3. until flour is a light golden color
  4. 5 to 10 minutes. Add milk
  5. whisking vigorously. Season with pepper
  6. salt
  7. sage
  8. garlic powder
  9. and onion powder. Cook until thickened but not boiling
  10. about 5 minutes.
