Toasted Garlic Bread

Description

Quick and scrumptious garlic bread that will complement any Italian meal. Melted mozzarella is optional, but delicious!

Ingredients

  • 1 (1 pound) loaf Italian bread
  • 5 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 2 teaspoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Set an oven rack about 6 inches from the heat source and preheat the oven’s broiler. Cut loaf into ten 1-inch slices.
  2. Mix butter
  3. garlic
  4. oil
  5. oregano
  6. salt
  7. and pepper together in a bowl; spread butter mixture on one side of each slice of bread; arrange bread slices
  8. butter-side up
  9. in a single layer on a baking sheet.
  10. Cook under the preheated broiler until slightly brown
  11. checking frequently so they do not burn
  12. about 3 minutes.
  13. Top bread slices with cheese and return to broiler until cheese is slightly brown and melted
  14. about 2 minutes. Serve hot.
