Pareve Cholent

Description

This no-meat Cholent recipe is always a hit. You can add meat if you like, but most people don’t even realize that the meat is missing.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup dry kidney beans
  • ½ cup dry white beans
  • ½ cup barley
  • 2 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1 large sweet potato, peeled and cubed
  • 1 large onion, cut into chunks
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ⅔ cup ketchup
  • ¼ cup barbeque sauce
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 2 teaspoons ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 4 cups water, or more as needed to cover

Instructions

  1. Place kidney beans
  2. white beans
  3. barley
  4. potatoes
  5. sweet potato
  6. onion
  7. garlic
  8. ketchup
  9. barbeque sauce
  10. soy sauce
  11. brown sugar
  12. garlic powder
  13. onion powder
  14. paprika
  15. pepper
  16. salt
  17. and water in a slow cooker. Mix well. Cook on High for 3 hours
  18. then reduce heat to Low and continue cooking overnight until the beans are tender.
