Pammy’s Slow Cooker Beans

Description

Delicious pinto bean recipe that does not include pork but still has an awesome flavor. My family loves it! Serve over hot cooked rice.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds dried pinto beans
  • 8 cups water, or more if needed
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 smoked turkey leg
  • ⅓ cup olive oil

Instructions

  1. Wash and pick over the beans
  2. then place them in a large bowl. Fill the bowl with cold water
  3. and soak the beans for 6 to 8 hours.
  4. Drain and rinse the beans
  5. then place into a slow cooker. Pour in 8 cups of water. Stir in onion
  6. garlic powder
  7. onion powder
  8. black pepper
  9. and bay leaves. Place the turkey leg into the cooker
  10. cover
  11. and cook on Low setting for 6 hours. Stir in olive oil
  12. and add more water if the beans are beginning to dry out; cook until the beans are very tender
  13. an additional 2 hours.

Prep Time: 15 mins

Cook Time: 8 hrs

Total Time: 14 hrs 15 mins
