Old-Fashioned Hot Fudge Sauce

Description

This is a very classic hot fudge for all your chocolate whims. Of course it is perfect for ice cream, but consider using it as a sauce over cheese cake …yum.

Ingredients

  • 4 (1 ounce) squares unsweetened chocolate
  • ½ cup butter
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups white sugar
  • 1 (12 fluid ounce) can evaporated milk

Instructions

  1. Fill the lower pot of a double boiler halfway with water and bring to a boil. Melt chocolate
  2. butter
  3. and salt together in the upper pot. Add sugar
  4. 1/2 cup at a time
  5. stirring after each addition.
  6. Gradually add evaporated milk
  7. a little at a time
  8. and continue stirring until well mixed.
  9. Serve hot over ice cream. Extra sauce may be stored in the refrigerator and reheated in the microwave.
