Apple Chutney

Description

This easy chutney is a great companion for so many dishes from turkey sandwiches to pork chops.

Ingredients

  • 15 tart apples – peeled, cored, and finely chopped
  • 1 yellow onion, quartered
  • 3 (1 inch) pieces fresh ginger root, peeled
  • 1 cup white wine vinegar
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon white pepper
  • ½ teaspoon ground cardamom
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan
  2. mix the apples
  3. onion
  4. ginger
  5. vinegar
  6. white sugar
  7. brown sugar
  8. cinnamon
  9. white pepper
  10. cardamom
  11. and nutmeg. Bring to a boil
  12. reduce heat
  13. and cover. Simmer 30 minutes
  14. stirring frequently
  15. until the apples are tender. Mix in some water if necessary to keep the ingredients moist. Remove the onion and ginger
  16. and store in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
